Mr. Eason was born Feb. 19, 1937, in Chowan County, North Carolina. An electrical supervisor with Union Camp Corp. in Franklin, Va., now International Paper, he retired after 40 years of employment. A member and deacon of Reynoldson Baptist Church, he taught the Men’s Sunday school class for more than 40 years. A Past Master of Gatesville Masonic Lodge No. 126, he was a member of McAlister Masonic Lodge No. 185 in Suffolk, past Patron of Whaleyville Chapter No. 137, The Order of the Eastern Star, past president of the Suffolk Shrine Club, past president of the Road Runner’s of the Khedive Shire Center, had served as chaplain of the Khedive Shrine Center and was a member of the Norfolk Court Royal Order of Jesters No. 75. His community involvement included service as chairman of the board for Community Electric Cooperation, a board member of Old Dominion Electric Cooperative and several mission trips through the North Carolina Baptist Men’s Disaster Relief Group. He had served his county as a member of the National Guard. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis M. and Martha Pierce Eason and a granddaughter, Meghan Smither. The husband of Jean Bracy Eason for 46 years, he was the loving father of Donna E. Smither of Suffolk, Laura E. Joyner and husband Glen of Zuni and Carl R. Eason, Jr. and wife, Kara, of Ivor, Additional survivors are grandchildren, Katelyn and Kelsey Smither, Miranda Joyner and Ayden and Aleyah Eason; a sister, Mary E. Holland of Suffolk; and brother, George M. Eason of Hampton, John T. Eason of Lake Gaston and Don Eason of St. Augustine, Fla. The funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Reynoldson Baptist Church by the Revs. John Wilkinson, Billy Presley and Todd Higginson. Burial with Masonic rites will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Gatesville, N.C., and other times at the residence.
