Thurs., March 10, 1831  Edenton Gazette
   DEPARTED THIS LIFE on Monday morning last, at his residence near Ballard's 
Bridge, EPHRAIM ELLIOTT, ESQ., aged 52 years. MR. ELLIOTT has been Post Master 
at that place for several years, which duties he fulfilled with the utmost 
exactness. He was also a Justice of the Peace in Chowan County. In the death 
of this gentleman, the county is bereaved of one of its most active officers, 
and the neighborhood in which he lived, of one of its best neighbors. It may 
be truly said of him, that he was "an honest man, the noblest work of God."
