He had long been subject to an inflammatory affection of the chest, until at length the lurking and insidious disease assumed the well- known character of incipient consumption. He was advised by his friends to try the effect of a West Indian voyage, and in consequence, went to the island of Martinique, but deriving little or no benefit from change of climate, he returned to the United States still entertaining a lingering hope of obtaining relief by visiting a more northern temperature in the summer season: but alas! in vain. With those who were allied to him by the tender ties of consanquinity, his untimely and premature death will be long and deeply deplored, as an irreparable deprivation: he has left behind him an aged father -- brothers and sisters whose affliction for his loss can only be ameliorated by the recollections of his distinguished worth, and by a pious submission to the will of the Almighty.
