Tuesday, March 9,   1813   Edenton Gazette
   DIED, at Raleigh, on the evening of the 23rd ult, in the 60th year of his 
age, WILLIAM SLADE, ESQ., late of Edenton, soliciter of the State for the 
first District. MR. SLADE had removed about a month ago from Edenton, 
intending to fix his regular residence at that place. It pleased the all-wise 
disposer of events to order it otherwise. He has left a family of children, 
all females, to lament the loss of their only parent -- MRS. SLADE having died 
a few weeks before his removal. MR. SLADE served in the revolutionary contest, 
and was a firm friend of the Republican institution of his country. It was 
late before he commenced the study of law. He, not withstanding, sustained a 
very respectable standing at the bar, and was esteemed a man of great probity.
   The deceased, being a Freemason, was interred with Masonic honors. The 
Brethen of the Unanimity Lodge, of which MR. SLADE was a member, are directed 
to wear as a badge of mourning, a blue ribbon on their left breast, as a 
testimony of the respect they bear his memory.
