He was the son of the late Joseph F. and Mrs. Penelope Skinner Speight of Chowan County, N.C., and a member of High Street Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Clara Eason Speight; two sons, Emmett L. Speight of Baltimore, Md. and Burnell Speight of Franklin; a daughter, Mrs. Evelyn F. Joyner of Franklin; two grandchildren, Elton Trotman of Trotville, N.C., and Mrs. Mariette Wiggins of Portsmouth; and a sister, Mrs. Susie Forehand of Tyner, N.C. Funeral services for Mr. Speight were held in the chapel of the Holland Funeral Home on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, with Rev. R.D. Stephenson of Franklin and Rev. Otis L. Gilliam of Courtland officiating. Burial was in the cemetery at Nottoway Chapel, the active pallbearers being R.H. Allen, Edgar Blythe, James Dunlow, Vernard Scott, Harry Steinhardt and J.
