MR. TREDWELL had attained to the 84th year of his age, was a native of North Homestead, Long Island, emigrated to this town in the year 1785-86, was appointed Collector by GEN. WASHINGTON in 1791, and was the oldest collector in the United States. No newspaper can do justice to the merits of the deceased: he was a polished and accomplshed Gentleman, a kind and affectionate husband and father, a sincere friend, an indulgent master and a pious Christian and it will be long ere the chasm produced in society by this event can be filled. The writer witnessed the last moments of MR. TREDWELL and was let to exclaim: "Let me die the death of the righteous and let my last end be like his."
