Chowan County, NC - Will of Isaac Birum, 1827 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Will of Isaac Birum: I, Isaac Birum of the County of Chowan and State of North Carolina, being of a sound mind and disposing memory, do make constitute and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following Viz: 1st. It is my will and desire that all my Just debts should be discharged as soon as convenient after my decease by my Executor hereafter named. 2nd. I give and Bequeath unto my son William Birum one set of Black Smith Tools, one feather bed and firniture and some other articles which I have already possessed him with unto him and his heirs for Ever. 3rd. I give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Lydda Goodwin one Feather Bed and firniture one linen wheal which I have already possessed her with, unto she and her heirs for Ever. 4th. I give and Bequeath unto my Son James birum one Feather Bed and firniture and some other articles which I have already possessed him with unto him and his heirs for Ever. 5th. I give and Bequeath unto my son Nathan birum a part of the land whereon I now live which is as follows: Beginning in the mouth of Spring Branch then up the Branch to the head to a white oak by the side of the Causeway then up the said Causeway to a water oak at the Road then across the Field to pine then along a line of marked Trees to the line now Noah Wards then along the said Wards line to the line belonging to the heirs of Isaac Birum deceased then along the said Birums line to the Swamp then down the Swamp to the first Station. I also give him One Cow and Calf, One Feather Bed and firniture which I have already possessed him with (except the land which he has sold to Moses Birum) unto him and his heirs for Ever. 6th. I loan to my Beloved wife, Libeah Birum, one third part of the remainder of my lands (and one third part of my perishable Estate during her natural life). But the land only her natural life or widowhood, and after her decease Its my Will that the aforesaid perishable Estate be Equally divided between my Two Children, Moses and Orpah Birum. I also give and bequeath unto my son Moses Birum all my lands remaining and also including that third part which I loand unto my wife after her decease or Marriage and the other two thirds of my perishable Estate unto him and his heirs for Ever. 7th. I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Orpah Birum One Feather Bed and firniture which she Calls hers and Fifty Dollars in money to be raised out of my Estate Before any Division takes place beforementioned unto she and her heirs for Ever. 8th. And lastly I nominate and appoint my son Moses Birum my Executor to this my last Will and Testament as Witness hereof I have hereunto Set my hand and seal this the 24th day of the 12th Month, 1827.
