A "?" denotes some doubt as to correct reading of nearly-illegible letters or words. "ther_" denotes missing letter. [Note: Chowan County Court records prove Richard's "Loving Wife" was named Hannah. The "Contry Line" was the border between Nansemond County, VA, and Chowan County, NC., later Gates County.
