                       Will of Edward Smithwick

                   Jan. 21, 1715, Chowan Precinct, NC 

In the name of God Amen I Edward Smithwick of the precen't of Chowan in 
the Province of North CarolinaGentlemen being of Perfect mind and Memory 
Praise be to God, therefore Do make and appoint my Last Will and 
testament and I hereby Revoke all former wills by me heretofore made - 
First and principally I commit my Soul intothe hands of a All mighty 
Loving Maker Hoping through his merits and the merits of my Savior Jesus 
Christ toobtain a Remission of my Sins and my Body I commit to the 
ground to be decently buried in such maner as myExecutors hereafter 
named shall think fit -

And as for my worldly Estate with which hath pleased God to In Dow me 
with I BeQueath to my son EdwardSmithwwick one shilling I bequeath to my 
son John Smithwick one Shilling each to be paid in ContaryCommodities -

I BeQueath to my Daughter Sarah a young bay mare branded G on the nere 
but I also bequeath to my Daughter Sarahone hundred Acres of Land Lying 
on Morratok River ajoyning to Nathan Mors on ye West Side to her and her 
heirsfor Ever - 

I give and bequeath to my four grandchildren Edward Grifen, John Grifen, 
Martin Grifen, and Sarah Grifen four yereling Heifers and their InCrease 
male and female for they and their heirs for Ever -

I give and Bequeath to my granddaughter Affaarik Smith one Hundred Acres 
of Land ajoyning to her fathers for her and her heirs for Ever - As for 
my worldly Moveable Estate with which God allmighty Endowed me with 
After all my just Debts Is paid I give and bequeath my beloved wife and 
Edmond Smithwick my son and Samuel Smithwick my son to be Equally 
Divided - 

As for all my lands I give and Bequeath to Edmond Smithwick and Samuel 
after my Death for they and their heirs for Ever to Equally Divided -
I nominate and appoint Mr. William Charlton and Luke Mizel Executors of 
this my Last will and testament - 

Sealed Signed and Delivered before us as witness our Hands January ye 
21, 1715, and further Mr. William Charlton to Acknowledge to William 
Mizel 400 acres of Land Lying on Morattok River Ajoyning on Pausim Hill 
Creek if ocasion Be -
