Chowan County, NC - Will of Mary Stringer, 1748 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Secretary of State Microfilm 1663-1790 Roll S.108.202 In the name of God Amen the 27 day of April 1744 I Mary Stringer widow and releck of John Stringer deceased of the county of Chowan in the province of North Carolina being weak in body but in sound and perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God therefore calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all once to dye do make and ordane this my last will and testement that is to say principally and first of all I give and recomend my soul into the hands of God that give it and my body I recomend to the earth to be buried in a decent and Christian like maner at the descretion of my executors hereafter named nothing doubting but at general resurrection shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such wordly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form Iprimes I give and bequeath unto my son John Sanders one negro woman named Jenny and two puter dishes and two casons to him and his heirs for ever and to have no more of my estate Item I give and bequeath unto my son John Sanders son Francis Sanders one negro garle name Mussher to him and his heirs for ever Item I give and bequeath unto my son John Sanders daughter Martha Sanders one negro boy name Mingo to her and her heirs of her body for ever Item I give and bequeath unto my son Francis Sanders one negro boy named Lam and one negro garle namd Kate and one other negro garle named Libb to him and his heires for ever Item I give unto my daughter Mary Davison one small trunk to the vallue of five shillings and to have no more my estate Item I give unto my daughter Martha Summer five shillings current mony of Virginia and to have no more of my estate Item I give unto my grandaughter Susan Morris one brass skillet and to have no more of my estate Item I give unto my two gran daughters Elizabeth Cotting and Mary Gardner one shilling each and to have no more of my estate Item I give and bequeath unto my son Francis Sanders all the remaining part of my estate that is not all ready given both within & ones without & ones that is to say all my household goods cattle hoges and sheepe and I doe hereby nominate ordane and appoint my two sons John and Francis Sanders my whole and sole executors of this my last will and testament to see my just debts and leagosies paid and funeral expenses dischargd revokeing and makeing void all former wills and writing of the like kind and do in the presents of God and these my evidences declare this to be my last will and testament In witness whereof I have hereunto lett my hand and seal the day and year above written Signd Seald published pronounced Mary (her x mark) Stringer and declared by the said Mary Stringer as her last will and testament in the presents of us the subscribers Edward Hare Henry Clayton Edward Hare Jun'r Eden House May 10 1748 Then the above will was proved and John Sanders one of the executors qualified before me Gab.
