Hwy 64 east of Hayesville. It lies on a road that goes between U.S. 64 and Oak Forest Road. Take a right on this road before you get to State Route 1148 off of U.S. 64. Situated on a large hill-top overlooking the valleys to the hills beyond lies a quiet little cemetery containing some 150-200 graves comprised mostly of families: Herbert, Lloyd, Worley, Mauldin, Nicely, Blackwell, and Corn. Frank Herbert who acquired the land from his father, Kep, gathered together Charlie Lloyd, Frank Lloyd, Lee Mauldin, Harley Worley, Bill Herbert, and John Jones at the site and told them To take it either way you want. Down the hill, up the hill, or out. They chose down and Frank Lloyd and Frank Herbert helped to fence the area since it was being pastured. Court documents indicate that it had been used as a burial place prior to the Civil War for the slave community and their descendants. After a dispute over ownership in 1979, the property was deeded to Fort Hembree Baptist Church. Most of the information on those buried here comes from the Frank Lloyd family. Frank had tended the cemetery for years until ill health prevented his continuing. John Corn then began tending this cemetery. This survey was performed by Mrs. Dorothy Shepherd and John H. Corn.
