Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church - Clay County, North Carolina ( 7 Names) Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery is located off Hwy 64 east of Hayesville off State Route 1330 (Cold Branch Road) on the right just past Union Hill Cemetery on State Route 1331. The church was started in 1885. Land was donated by H. M. Penland. Richard Holden, John A. Penland, Samuel Hogsed, G. W. Penland and others gave of their means and labored to erect the first church building. The church family worshiped in this building until a new building was erected about a mile from the original site. Gilbert Mashburn was the church's first pastor.
