A native of Polk County, he was the son of the late John and Ella Griffin Dyer. Mr. Dyer was a retired mechanic at Tedder Motor Co. He was a member of Davidson Memorial Baptist Church where he was a deacon. Mr. Dyer was preceded in death by a son, Sam Dyer Jr. and a daughter Peggy Dyer Kendrix. Survivors include his wife, Doris Queen Dyer; three sons, Walter Dyer and Clifford Dyer of Shelby, Gene Dyer of Ormond Beach, Fl.; two daughters, Linda Dyer of Boiling Springs,Carol Franklin of Shelby; four sisters, Leola Hoyle, Lula Turner, Corene Bridges, Ollie Walker, all of Shelby; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral will be Saturday at 11am at Davidson Memorial Church with Dr. Bobby Ridge and the Revs. Charles Boone and B..L. Queen officiating. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Lutz-Austell Funeral Home.
