The Semi-Weekly Messenger (Wilmington NC) 27 Dec 1898
Witt, the 12 year old son of W A Harter, who lives near Shelby, was found dead
in a pile of cotton seed a few days ago. When found he was headforemost in the
pile of seed, and it is probable that his hands being imprisoned by the seed, he
was unable to rescue himself and was smothered to death.
