Thinking that some account of my children and their families will not be unacceptable, I will mention them severally, beginning with Robert who married Sally Black and has three children; Clark, who married Susanah Carter had three children, all dead; Joseph married Lydia M. Rogers had one boy, Alexander, who married Magdaline Collins, daughter of Hy Collins, my new neighbor; and Hugh who was married lately to Lucretia Turner. I should have mentioned John after Alexander who married Lucy Harden daughter of Major Thos H Harden of the neighborhood who has one child living and one dead. These include all who are married who with their families are all well. The next order is Mary Oats, my oldest daughter; Elizabeth Phillips who will be 15 years old in December. Mary will be 18 in August next; James Monroe my youngest son about 13 years old and last though not least in our affection comes Margarett Ann not 10 years old till October next.; the four last mentioned arew with me and Jas. And Margarett are going to school… Our sister Bets and Rachael died last fall about the same time; Robert and Joseph who live in White County in the ( ). I heard from them about Xmas and they they were well. Bro Samuel who lives about 5 miles from me is well; his 3 oldest children are married and Sam Wilson who lives in the same neighborhood with Bro Saml is well and his oldest children are married. Sol Ramsey lives in 2 miles of me, though laboring under complaint is generally well. His 2 oldest sons are married and old Granny Davis is yet alive and staid with me all night this last fall. I have not heard of Alexander who lives in Illinois for the last 2 o3 3 years. Thus have I attempted to give you some general information of our families or neighbors. This Country in which we live is one of plenty and the land is good. (?) healthy and society is good as will be found in most countries. There is somewhat a pression for money being not so plenty as the demand tho we have aplenty of the produce of the soil. Land commands high profits from 15 h 25 for first quality…the Articles of Sugar, and Coffee sell I know on somewhat higher in prices than what they are in (NC?) Say Sugar 25 cents coffee 18 to 20 censts It would afford me much happiness to see you both again and should circumstances so admit next fall. Remembering nothing more that would afford you interest I will conclude. My wife and family join in our affection to and our prayers and that this may find you in all the enjoyment and prosperity we could wish you…In conclusion, with the best sentiments of Brotherly love and esteem I subjoin myself your brother James Glenn As it would afford me great pleasure to hear from you, please to answer this by mail or otherwise as soon as convenient direct to Lewisburg Marshall County Tennessee Additional Comments: This letter is in the Probate file of Robert Glenn Sr.at the Lincoln County NC Courthouse File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/nc/cleveland/wills/glenn530nwl.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/ncfiles/ File size: 4.2 Kb
