This cemetery was surveyed by Anita Barfield and Kay Duncan for their book,
"They're Buried in Our Past", published in 1983 It was their #45, Page 62,
and called "Pierce Cemetery". I am calling it Smith-Pierce Cemetery to note
the oldest grave (Col. Jonathan Smith), the fact that it is on the former
Smith plantation, and to differentiate it from the Pierce Cemetery which is
west of SR1001 on Pierce Cemetery Road.

The Smith-Pierce Cemetery is in the woods off Road 1909, which is off Road
1908, which is off Road 1001 south of Hallsboro in the "Elbow" community.
