Coval Lane Formyduval was born in Columbus County on June 22, 1845. Was by occupation a laborer prior to enlisting in New Hanover County on March 7, 1862. Present or accounted for until September-October, 1863, when he was reported absent on sick furlough in Columbus County. Returned to duty on December 29, 1863. Present or accounted for until captured at Drewry's Bluff, Virginia, May 16, 1864. Confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, May 19, 1864. Transferred to Elmira, New York, August 16, 1864. Paroled at Elmira on February 9, 1865. Received at Boulware's Warf, James River, Virginia, on or about February 20, 1865, for exchange. Hosptialized at Richmond, Virginia, February 20, 1865, with an unspecified complaint. Furloughed on February 25, 1865. Survivied the war. His North Carolina Pension records indicate that he was "severly mashed" at Charleston, South Carolina, in May, 1863, when a cannon fell on him.
