COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC - MILITARY - Samuel Hickman, Revolutionary War Pension Application ----¤¤¤---- REVOLUTIONARY WAR PENSION APPLICATION - SAMUEL HICKMAN Actual excerpts from Samuel HICKMANs REV pension record from Columbus Co. NC #S9581, dated November 12th, 1832. On the 12th day of November 1832 personally appeared before the court, County of Columbus now in person Samuel Hickman a resident of North Carolina in the county of Columbus aged seventy one years, who being first duly sworn according to law doth make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the Act of Congref June 7th, 1832, That he enlisted in the Army of the United States in the year on thousand seven hundred seventy eight on the 21st day of July, he belives he was a resident of Kingston District South Carolina when he enlisted for three years with Lt. Weakly and served in the 4th Reg. of the Contential line he belives. (The record goes on to state where he marched to and whom he served under for the duration of his first enlistment,he was discharged by Capt. Harmon Davis in August or Sept.1781.Again in the year 1781 Oct. or Nov.he re-enlisted with Col. Horry for 12 months in the light Horn and was attached to Capt.William Weathers company and served until peace was declared. This REV record is signed by Samuel Hickman himself) There was no mention of a spouse or any children in the record. There was a query made into the pension record of Samuel Hickman by Honorable John Kee, House of Representatives, the following is a letter from The Comptroller General, Record Division,General Accounting Office, dated October 27,1933. The data which follow were obtained from the papers on file in the pension claim, S9581, based upon the military service of Samuel Hickmon,His personal signature was Hickmon but he was pensioned as Hickman While a resident of Kingston Dist., South Carolina. he enlisted and served as private with the South Carolina troops as follows;from July 21,1778, until August or September, 1781 in Captain James Mitchell,s.Roberts, and Harman Davis companies; from October or November, 1781,until the declaration of peace in Capt.William Weathers, Albert Rue's and Joseph Walley's companies in Col.Horry's reg. He was living in Columbus co, NC in 1828. He was allowed pension on his application escuted Nov.12, 1832, at which time he was seventy one years of age and was living in Columbus co, NC.
