R. B. Dow, of Lennon’s Cross Roads, Columbus county, died here suddenly Wednesday. He has been in feeble health for some years and was addicted to the opium habit. Yesterday afternoon he was seen by some fishermen to cross the old bridge and sit down under the shade of a tree and a little later fell on his face. When found he was dead. Whether death was due to an over dose of landauum or morphine, vials of which were found on his person, or to heart disease, from which he had long been a sufferer, is not known. Mr. Dow was a Baptist preacher of some local celebrity and until his health become impaired was a speaker of considerable power. His remains were sent home for interment.
