She was born in Bolton, NC and the daughter of the Milton Clyde Council and Mary Partridge Council. She was also predeceased by her loving husband of 44 years in 1995, Jimmy; her youngest son, Timothy, who passed in 1975 at the age of 13; three sisters, Lucy Ivey, Edith George and Victoria Skipper; and two brothers, Neal Council and Roy Council. Mary was an avid and active member of Sunbeam Baptist Church for over 50 years where she sang in the church choir and taught Children’s Sunday School for over forty years. She was affectionately known as “Nanny” by her own grandchildren and also her church children. Nanny always took time for hugs from her babies and an “I love you” as she passed out chocolates before Pastor’s sermon. In her days at home she was always busy. She had a great love of being outdoors working in her yard, planting her flowers, watching her birds of all species, and putting up more feeders and bird houses. When her children were growing up, there were all kinds of animals around, from horses, ponies, goats, cows, chickens, dogs and cats! One of her greatest pleasures was taking and teaching her grands and great grands to fish down at her favorite pond. Nanny was the queen of fisherwomen. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Mary Spence (Jeff), Teri Fowler (Dillie), and Peggy Babb (Jerry); a son, Mike Glover; grandchildren, Brian Mitchell, Clay Mitchell, Eric Mitchell, David Babb, Norman Babb, Danny Fowler, and Joseph Fowler; 12 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter with a great-great grandson due in May; many devoted nieces and nephews; and the most special BFF’s ever, Mary Ruth Tuner and Terry Turner. A Funeral Service will be held at 2PM Saturday, March 26, 2022 in Wright Funeral Home with Rev. Hoyle Green officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home and suggests that in lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations Sunbeam Baptist Church.
