Biblical Recorder 04/27/1881
We learn from the Wilmington Star that Capt. W. J. Stanley, a prominent lawyer of 
Whiteville, Columbus county, shot himself on Sunday, 17th inst., and died in a few 
moments.  He leaves a wife and six Children.  Liquor did it all.
