JOHN PATRICK WADDELL
  
Fair Bluff – John Patrick Waddell, 74, died Sunday at 11 p.m. in Southeastern
General Hospital after a brief illness. The funeral will be conducted Tuesday at
4 p.m. in Meares Funeral Chapel and burial will be in the Powell Cemetery. His
pastor, the Rev. J.H. Parris, will be assisted by two former pastors, the Rev.
Fred Davis of Elizabethtown and the Rev. Neill Thompson of Raleigh. 
Mr. Waddell was the oldest member of the local Masonic lodge, a former mayor of
Fair Bluff and a retired merchant and farmer. A member of Fair Bluff Methodist
Church, he served as secretary-treasurer of its Sunday school for more than 50
years, resigning only recently. His parents were the late John Patrick and Mary
Hinson Waddell of Fair Bluff.
 
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Louise Floyd Waddell; a son, Earl Waddell of Fair
Bluff; two daughters, Mrs. Gene Stevens of Fair Bluff and Southern Pines and
Miss Nellie Waddell of Fair Bluff; one brother, Dr. M.A. Waddell, and one
sister, Mrs. Bertie Waddell Floyd, both of Fair Bluff.
 
Pallbearers will be Bobby, Wilton and James Waddell, Aubrey Williams, John Carl
Townsend and Poe Barnes.
