MAYOR J.P. WADDELL DIES IN FAIR BLUFF – LAST RITES TODAY FOR FATHER OF DR. M.A.
WADDELL – DIED IN 24 HOURS AFTER DEATH OF SON 

Fair Bluff. Nov. 27. – J.P. Waddell, mayor of Fair Bluff and one of the most
substantial citizens of Columbus county, died at his home here last night at 9
o’clock.

Mayor Waddell had for several years remained in a feeble state of health having
suffered from a weak heart. The death of a son, Jennings Waddell, on Monday
afternoon had an unfavorable reaction on Mr. Waddell with fatal results. 
 
Funeral services will be held from the Fair Bluff Methodist church at 11 o’clock
Thursday with the Rev. Freeman Heath, being assisted by the Rev. Frank T. Wooten
of Chadbourn. Interment will follow in the Fair Bluff cemetery. 
Mayor Waddell was affiliated with the Masonic order and the Woodmen of the
World. Both these orders are expected to attend the funeral.

Mayor Waddell was the father of Dr. M.A. Waddell of Lumberton.
