Columbus County, NC - Obituary of Jack Walters, 1966 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jack Walters Fair Bluff --- A Military funeral for Jack Walters, 73, who died late Monday in Columbus County Hospital, Whiteville, will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. in Meares Funeral Chapel, Fair Bluff. The rites will be conducted by a U.S. Army chaplain and burial will be in the National Cemetery at Florence, S. C. Son of the late James Burke and Alec Jones Walters of Robeson County, he was a retired U.S. Army master sergeant with 30 years of service. In civilian life he was a barber, making his home near Barnesville and at Lake Waccamaw. Surviving are his sons, Gene and Jack Walters, Jr., of Atlanta and Billy Walters of Ft. Worth; his daughters, Mrs. Mary Harris of Atlanta, Mrs. Lucille Fosdick of Cleveland, and Mrs. Barbara Lazeara of Freeport, N. Y.; 12 grandchildren. Jack Walters was born Jan 6, 1893 and died May 2, 1966. He was married to Lucy Benton. Jack was the son of James Burke Walters born Nov 15, 1867 died Jun 21, 1948 and Alexandria Rollen Jones born Jun 6, 1873 and died May 20, 1942.
