It was his father's Bible. His father was Thomas CARMACK and his mother was Sarah Florence HEATH. My grandfather traded it to his sister (Mertha CARMACK McClendon) for his mother's sewing machine. It is now in my possession and was a gift from Robert and Billy McClendon (sons of Mertha CARMACK McClendon). What a treasure I have! The front page of the Bible reads: The HOLY BIBLE CONTAINING THE OLD AND NEW TESTAMENTS: TRANSLATED OUT OF THE ORIGINAL TONGUES A3D WITH THE FORMER TRANSLATIONS DELIGENTLY COMPARED AND REVISED ______ STEROTYPED FOR THE AMERICAN BIBLE SOCIETY BY D.& G. BRUCE ____ D. Fanshane, Printer NEW YORK, 1829 The information reads: - Jefse Y. Carmack was born Octr 19, 1799 (Note: The writing is hard to read and tape is covering the first letter of first name. It could be an "S"of a "C". The Jefse could also be Cefse. In my grandfather's letter to his niece, 1977, he wrote the name from memory as Cefes Carmack.) - Patience Carmack was born July 23 W 1791 (Note: The letter between the day and year looked like a "W"; not sure why it was there. In my grand- father's letter, he had her death as Sept 5th, 1853.) - Levy Carmack was born Decr 25 1821 (Note: The month is difficult to read; however, the month was December in my grandfather's letter.) - Furnifold Carmack was born Jany 25th 1825 (Note: The day looks like it could be the 20th; it is hard to read. Also I could not tell if the second letter in the first name was a "u" or "a". In my grandfather's letter, the name has a "u" and the month and date is correct as January 25th. However, he remembered the year to be 1823. I feel sure the Bible is correct.) - Keziah Carmack was born August 5th 1826 (Note: The day looks like it could be the 6th; it is hard to read. In my grandfather's letter, he showed the date to be August 6th, 1826. He also listed the first name spelled two different ways. The first was spelled Kiziah and the second was Keziah.) -Thomas Carmack was born January 7th 1830 Written in pencil on another page is: An initial which I cannot tell with the name Carmack and John Carmack (there is a middle initial which I cannot read with John Carmack). ------------------------------------------------------------------------
