     State of North Carolina
        
                  To the sheriff of Dobbs County Greeting
      You are hereby commanded to summon wife of WILLIAM ALDRIDGE SR---.
  if to be found in your bailiwich] personally to be appear before the
  judges of the Superior Court of Law at the next said court to be held
  for the District of Newbern on the twentieth day of May next;then and 
  there to give evidence against WILLIAM ALDRIDGE JUNIOR or an informat-
  ion made against him by JOHN GARLAND in behalf of the State,and this h
  he shall in no wise omit under the penalty by law incumbent.Herein 
  fail not.Witness SILAS COOKE Clerk of the said Court at Newbern,this
  twentieth day of November in the XIII year of our Independance,Anna 
  Dom 1788

  State of North Carolina              Superior Court of LAW and
  Newbern District                     Equity November Term 1784

           The juror for the State upon their oath present,that WILLIAM
  ALDRIDGE JR late of the county of Dobbs,bricklayer,on the first day of 
  October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty
  four,in the county of Dobbs and district aforesaid,with force and arms,
  in and upon one JOHN HOLMS,in the peace of God and of the said State
  then and there being,did make an assault,and him the said JOHN then and
  there did beat,wound and illtreat and other wrong to him the said JOHN
  then and there did against the peace and dignity of the said State.
