Craven County, NC - Charles & George Cogdell Guardianship, 1712/13 ~~~~~~~~~~ Upon petition of George Bell setting forth that he had two servants bound to him by the Precinct Court of Craven in the month of Janry 1712/13 namely Charles Coggdaile and George Coggdaile as by indenture may appeare. And further that the Court aforesaid have pretended to set the said servants at liberty as he is informed by reason they could not perfectly read and write when as the time of their servitude is not halfe expired and he further aledges that dureing the time they were with him they were well used and much time allowed them to perfect them in their readeing and writeing and that he intended to instruct them in the building of vessells. Therefore pray's that in regard there is noe other allegation made appeare against him they may remain with him till the time in the indenture specifyed be expired etc. And the matter being considered of by this board it is ordered that the said Charles and George Cogdaile doe remain with their said master pursuant to their former indentures notwithstanding any order of the Precinct Court unless sufficient cause be shewn to this board to the contrary.
