Craven County, NC - Willis Bloodworth, 1786 Newbern, June 1 This day a young man, calls himself Willis Bloodworth, was taken up and committed to goal in this town for having in his possession counterfeited French crowns. The circumstances which led to his detection are as follows; some time ago he gave a negro in town five crowns of the same kind with orders to purchase some trifling things for him and that he might keep the remainder. They happened to be discovered by Mr. John Council Bryan in the negro's possession, who gave an unembarrassed account of the transaction, and minutely describing Bloodworth's person - he was soon after apprehended On being searched there were found five or six fictitious crowns about him, together with a lump of clay, which it is supposed he had used as a mould to run the money in; they were miserably executed and prove Bloodworth by no means as adept in the the art of coining.
