Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions Joseph SHARPE 13th June 1777 Craven County, NC State of North Carolina Know all men by these Presents that we Joseph SHARPE, John GREEN & William RAMSEY all of the County of Craven in the State aforesaid are Held and firmly Bound unto His Excellency Richard CASWELL, Esquire Governor Captain General and Commander in Chief of the State aforesaid in the Just and full Sum of Two Thousand Pounds Current Money of the State aforesaid to be paid to the said Richard CASWELL Esquire, Governor, His Heirs or Successors of the Use of this State to which payment well and truly to be made and done we Bind ourselves, Our & Each of us Our Heirs Executors and Administrators jointly and severally firmly by these Presents Sealed with Our Seals and Dated Thirteenth Day of June Anno Domini 1777. The Condition of the above Obligation is such That whereas the above Bound Joseph SHARPE having been cited to appear before the Worshipful the Justices of the County Court of Craven as a person holding principles Inimical to the Liberties of America and having appeared before the said Court. The Oath of Abjuration and Allegiance directed to be taken being Tendered to the said Joseph SHARPE and he having refused to take the same agreeable to the Act of Assembly in such Case made and provided Now in Case the above Bound Joseph SHARPE do and shall Depart this State within Sixty Days from the Date hereof for Europe or the West Indies, and in the mean time Demean himself in every Respect and Comply with the Direction of the said Act of Assembly that then this Obligation to be Void otherwise to Remain in full force and Virtue.
