Was called to see the deceased at 9 PM last Thursday, and found him with a gun or pistol shot wound below the left shoulder blade; did not think the wound a serious one. Asked CORING how it happened, and he said he was arrested by a policeman and on his way to the station tried to escape and was shot. SNIDER said that CORING was a stranger to him; he had seen him once before. Administered medicine to him, and left him one hour before his death. Told him he could sit up and walk around by Monday, and was surprised to hear of his death about 8 or 9 o'clock. He complained of pain in his breast, and SNIDER gave him 15 drops of laudanum; if he had not been wounded, he would have treated him for pleurisy as his symptoms indicated that complaint. COBB stated that the deceased was a stranger to her; she did not know his name. He was brought to her house on Thursday wounded; COBB took him in and nursed him; he said he tryed to escape from the police and they shot him; never heard why he was arrested. Gave him something to eat this morning, and he drank some coffee and threw it off his stomach; soon after went to assist him and he died immediately. WHITLEY stated that the deceased was brought into his office on last Thursday night and finding he was wounded he called two physicians who examined him and pronounced his wound not serious; permitted his friends to take him away. Have known nothing of him since until heard of his death. Verdict: Came to his death by other causes to them unknown beside the gun shot wound.
