DAY DOD: 5 Aug 1882 Witnesses: John DAY, Hugh IRELAND, M.V. BALL, J. SPENCER, Dae FISHER, H. DOUGLASS, [can't read] GARRISH, H. DOUBLASS, Geo. MASON, John O. GIBBS, Wm. PAYNE. Witness statements: John DAY says that he was with the deceased yesterday morning. They were on a large boat, and James DAY was begging for his supper from the cook. IRELAND corroborates John DAY, except that he was with the deceased later. BALL says that he saw him on the dock floating this morning. He saw the boys at play last night about the dock, but didn't pay much attention; knew of no trouble with the boy. All other witnesses said that they saw the boys at play around the wharf and there was no fuss or quarreling among them. Inquest verdict: Inquest held 6 Aug 1882 at New Bern. Came to his death by accidental drowning.
