Name of deceased: Charles DEES/DEAL

Witnesses: Green DEAL, Sylvia DEAL, Bynum SPRUIL, Munroe ROUNDTREE
Witness statements: G. DEAL stated deceased is his son. Charles worked for 
Munroe ROUNDTREE. Charles was brought home on Saturday evening shot and died 
in 5 or 10 minutes. Before he died he stated that he and Billy ROUNDTREE and 
one Rigdon [not sure if this is first or last name] were out hunting and 
fishing, and he [Charles] laid down his gun to fish. B. ROUNDTREE left, then 
Charles and Rigdon started for home forgetting the gun. They went back for the 
gun, and Charles bent down and picked it up by the barrel, and it went off, 
shooting him. Rigdon brought him home, and he died. S. DEAL and SPRUIL 
corroborated above. M. ROUNDTREE said that Chas DEAL, who works for him, asked 
to go hunting for squirrels, and he told him he could go after dinner. DEAL 
was working in the field, saw a squirrel, shot it, and brought it home to 
ROUNDTREE's wife. After dinner he borrowed a gun, and he and ROUNDTREE's son 
and Rigdon went off together. After awhile the son came home; the next 
ROUNDTREE heard was that DEAL was shot; he went to him and he told ROUNDTREE 
he was shot accidentally. The rest of the testimony corroborates G. DEAL.
Inquest verdict: Inquest held 28 May 1882 at Neuse Junction. The cause of 
death was accidental as evenced by the ante mortem statement of deceased.
