Inquest in the loft of an old oil mill house in Newbern.
Died "by his own act of suicide occasioned by his hanging himself by the neck 
to a beam in sd loft with two pocket handkerchiefs one of silk and one of 
cotton on the night of Sunday the seventh day of August 1831 in a fit of 
insanity occasioned by drinking to excess & that he is a perfect stranger in 
the place having been here only a few days his place of nativity unknown & 
possessed of nothing that we could ascertain except what he had on."
