All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by Jo Huettl - johit@suddenlink.net (Source: New Bern Register of Deeds, Book 42 Page 388 & 389) Richard B Jones & Frances Ann Jones heirs of Colonel Joseph Leech & George M Leech power of attorney to John R Donnell Know all men by these presents that we Richard B Jones and Frances Ann Jones his wife of Pennsylvania, but now in North Carolina for divers good causes and considerations us hereunto moving have made ordained, authorized, constituted and appointed an by these presents do make ordain authorize constitute and appoint the honorable John R Donnell one of the Judges of the Superior Court of North Carolina our true and lawful attorney for us and in our name, to treat with any person or persons whatsoever for the leasing, selling, or other dispositions of all or any of the lands, teriments, heriditaments, mefsages houses and grounds belonging to them either as heirs or some of the heirs of the late Colonel Joseph Leech and George M Leech or to them the said Richard B Jones and Frances Ann Jones in any other manner or by any other title, and after any treaty or agreement made and concluded as aforesaid for and in the name of the Said Richard B Jones and Frances Ann Jones to sign seal and deliver any such assignment & conveyances or afsurances, with such covenants of warranty to any persons or persons that shall purchase or agree to purchase the same premises or any of them, or any part of them as the said John R Donnell shall think fit. And the said Richard B Jones and Frances Ann Jones doth hereby ratify allow and make firm, all and what soever acts the said John R Donnell shall do or cause to be done in pursuance of and by virtue of these presents, or the power hereby given. In witnefs whereof the said Richard B Jones and Frances Ann Jones his wife have hereunto set their hands and seals this fifth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight and twenty one. (signed) Richard B Jones (seal) (signed) Frances Ann Jones (seal) Sealed and delivered in presences of (signed) Charles G Spaight State of North Carolina This day before me George E Badger one of the Judges of the Superior Courts of Law and Courts of Equity was the execution of the foregoing power of attorney from Richard B Jones and Frances Ann Jones acknowledged as their act and deed by the said Richard and Frances. And the said Frances Ann Jones being by me privately examined separate and apart from her said husband touching her free consent in executing the same freely voluntarily & of her own will & accord without any fear of compulsion of said husband or any other persons.
