JACKSON, Walter WALKER, Henry PASTEUR, Ivory JONES Witness statements: MULLEN states deceased was her husband. He had been complaining of being sick with pain and misery in his breast for about 2 years, and had complained for the last 3-4 weeks that he was getting worse. Yesterday he got something from someone downtown and took it. MULLEN does not know what it was or where he got it, but he said it was medicine. After he took it, he said he felt better and went to work at Simpson's Mills. Also complained of pain the pit of stomach, had fainting spells, sick at the stomach and headache, and cold feet. RESPESS states says he went to the saw and MULLEN was lying down, but was not dead, but could not speak. He lived about 15 minutes longer. Henry PASTEUR, Mrs. MULLEN, & the boy Walter were there. It was 7:15 PM last night. He lay about 50 feet from the saw. JACKSON said MULLEN came to work about 7:00 last night. He had sawed about 2/3 of a lot, then he left his work and went to the water bucket. When JACKSON looked up again, he saw them all standing around MULLEN; he and H. PASTEUR took him to the other side of the mill & laid him down; he was not dead but only lived about 10 minutes. He said in a low voice I cant stand it. This was about 7:10. WALKER stated that he was standing by the slab bench and saw people by the water bucket & he went there and saw "Uncle Levi was down and rolled over twice and said "Oh Lordy I can't stand it," once only. WALKER then went away. PASTEUR and Mrs. MULLEN were there; his wife had come to fetch his supper. PASTEUR was at the other side of the mill, and saw Mrs. MULLEN coming with a bucket with MULLEN's supper. She went over to the water bucket; when PASTEUR got there, he was lying on the floor. He said Oh me I can't stand it. JONES stated she/he knew nothing at all; was downstairs putting wood under the boiler. Inquest verdict: Inquest held 28 March 1880. Came to his death by disease of the head.
