He served as an American soldier during the whole of the revolutionary war, and that in the battle of Eutaw Spring he suffered several wounds which have rendered him a cripple for the rest of his life (at this time 2 of his wounds are running pus). GREEN and GRAHAM live in the neighborhood of the gaol in which HOPKINS in confined, and during the last cold spell in the first of December, on hearing that there was a person in the prison in this suffering condition, felt it was their duty to inquire into the circumstances. They were informed by several respectable persons that the charges against HOPKINS were groundless, and that Mr. MOYS, the person who brought him down and whose slave he was said to have stolen had repeatedly declared him innocent, and thought it was hard he was compelled to to bring him to gaol. On learning that HOPKINS "was a good and moral man, and that his longer confinement would in all probability terminate his existence", GREEN and GRAHAM posted bond. Š "these deponents say that they never saw or heard of said HOPKINS untill they heard of him in gaol and that they were induced to interpose to procure his discharge from motive of compassion only."
