BELL asked them what they meant by breaking into his house, and WATSON answered that it was a damned lie, and at the same moment BANTZ charged at him. BELL tried to beat him off, but the others closed in on him and threw him down and beat him so that he was much bruised, but he is not sure whether they used their fists only, or also clubs; he did not see any club or weapon when they entered his house. BELL states that he is not conscious of having given the defendants any offense or provocation. The defendants have made satisfactory amends and it is BELL's desire that the defendants should be dealt with mildly.
