RICHARDSON, Julius FONVIEL, Simon JOHNSON, ? BECKTON Witness statements: W. JOHNSON said that the deceased was his wife's father. W. and J. JOHNSON had left home about daybreak, and left "the old man" [deceased] at their house. He had been staying with them since the previous Sunday, & had been complaining of not feeling well. They got home after dark and found no light in the house; they could not get in the front door, so went to the back, shoved it open, and lit a lamp. The deceased was not there, and the water bucket was gone. J. JOHNSON then went to the home of a neighbor, Mr. BECTON to find out if ROBINSON had been there, or if he had any news of him. He didn't, but gave them a bucket of water. Mr. ? CARRAWON came along to talk to W. JOHNSON some work he wanted done, and the 2 of them talked, then J. JOHNSON called to him to come to the well to look for her father (along with Mr. BECTON). They went to the well and found the bucket, then found ROBINSON in the spring, dead; he had fallen forward. J. JOHNSON said that she is the daughter of ROBINSON and wife of W. JOHNSON. Said her father had been staying with them since Sunday; when she went away yesterday morning he was alive but complaining of chills, dizziness, and fainting fits. Otherwise, her testimony was corroboration or her husband's "almost word for word." A. BECKTON said she knew nothing about it, except that she saw the old man here in the morning & he complained of being sick. She never knew him before yesterday. WARD says he knew the old man & saw him yesterday complaining of being sick, then he saw him in the spring dead. RICHARDSON says that all he knows is that they called him to come see him in the spring; no one touched him. Did not know him before. FONVIEL said the same as RICHARDSON "to a word." S. JOHNSON says the same as the previous 2 witnesses. BECKTON said that J. JOHNSON came to his house looking for her father. BECKTON said he had not been there; he lent her a pail of water, and took it to her house. They got to talking about where to look, and BECKTON suggested the well, since the water bucket was gone. Went to the spring and found the old man head first in the spring; no one touched him. Inquest verdict: Held 10 Oct 1879. No other information.
