EVERINGTON stated that he left D. EVERINGTON's house about 10:00 and went toward the swamp and got over the fence, and saw "her" [i.e., deceased] "looking like she was standing up like" and called to Spicer LANE and told him to get the women folks. LANE asked if she were dead, then they went to her and found her dead hanging by a line. LANE went to the upper end of the field to hunt for Temperance and about 15 minutes later J. EVERINGTON called to him (then corroborates above statement). A. EVERINGTON states that she had in time past heard her say she intended to kill herself, and had tried to kill herself by drinking tea and said she would have drowned herself, but the water was too shallow. KEEL states she was at the house (D. EVERINGTON's) and LANE came and said she was found, and they (A. EVERINGTON, KEEL, & LANE went to where J. EVERINGTON was and found her hanging by a rope dead. FULSHIRE stated he believed she was deranged. Verdict: Temperance SEARLES was deranged and that she willfully hung herself.
