Saw him fall, went and found him dying. Did not hear the retort of a gun or pistol. WILLIAMS told him to run get help. WILLIAMS stated that he was on the ditch digging dirt, and heard the deceased call to him to come to him. He ran to him, asked him what was the matter. SIMMONS said he was shot. There was no one there but him. WILLIAMS did not hear a shot, but there was a pistol in his pocket that was on fire, and a hole in his breast. Inquest verdict: Inquest held in the Field of James S. WHITE on March 6. Verdict: Deceased came to his death by the accidental "fyering" of a pistol in his pocket.
