State of North Carolina Know all Men by these Presents that we John SITGREAVES, Jame COOR?, John BRYAN, Richard Dobbs SPRIGHT and John JONES all of the County of Craven in the State aforesaid are held and firmly bound unto His Excellency Richard CASWELL, Esquire, Governor, Captain General and Commander in Chief of the State aforesaid in the just —— full Sum of Five Hundred Thousand pounds current money of the said State to be paid to His said Excellency the Governor his Successors or Assigns to the which payment well and truly to be made and done we bind ourselves our and each of us our Heirs Executors and Administrators jointly and Severally firmly but these Presents, Sealed with our Seals and dated the fifteenth day of March Anno Domini 1780. The Condition of the Above Obligation is such that Whereas the above bound John SITGREAVES has been nominated and appointed by the Worshipful Court of the County of Craven & Commissioner for carrying into Execution an Act of Assembly of the State Intitled “An Act to Carry into Effect and Act proposed at NewBern in November in the year One Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy seven Intitled an Act for Confiscating the Property of all just persons as are Inimical to the United States and of Such persons as shall not within a certain time therein mentioned appear and submit to the State whether they shall be received as Citizens thereof and of such persons as shall so appear and shall not be admitted as Citizens and for other purposed therein mentioned and for other purposes. Now in case the above Bound, John SITGREAVES do and shall will truly faithfully and diligently execute the power and trust reposed in him as a Commissioner for the County of Craven, and in all things conduct himself, agreeable to the Act of Assembly in such Case made and provided and do and shall will and truly pay into the public Treasury of this State all monies which he or either of them shall or may receive in virtue of such appointment and will and truly Execute the judicial powers and Trusts in him vested by virtue of the Act of Assembly aforesaid that then this Obligation to be found otherwise to remain in full force and Virtue.
