James TAYLOR asks pardon of Court for joining the enemy.

Craven County

To the Worshipful Court for the County of Craven.
The Humble Petition of us the Subscribers humbly Sheath. Whereas James 
TAYLOR of the County of Craven, having been compelled to Joyn the Enemy at 
the time they came to Newbern and continued with them sometime at length 
came home and finding his wife Deceased and leaving five small Children with 
very little to support upon the Eldest of them about Eleven years of age.
The said TAYLOR begs leave to offer this our humble Petition as he will 
Render to the worshipful Court such Security as may be approved of for his 
sufficient good Conduct in behalf of the State together with all Requested 
Duty & Taxation to the utmost of his ability, as he did not Joyn the Enemy 
with any wicked Intention against the Friends of his Country. Neither has he 
committed any Crime save the top Joining them We therefore Pray the Mercy & 
Pardon of your worships to restore the said TAYLOR to his County again to 
Provide for his small Distressed family.
