Isaac CLARK of Craven Co., NC to Jonas OXLEY of Lenoir Co., NC
2 Jan 1794

This Indenture made the second day of January in the year of Our Lord One 
Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety Four, between Isaac CLARK of the County of 
Craven and State of North Carolina of the one part and Jonas OXLEY of the 
County of Lenoir and State aforesaid of the other part. Witnessed that the 
said Isaac CLARK, for and in Consideration of the sum of one hundred and 
twenty five pounds Current money of said State to him in hand paid by the 
said Jonas OXLEY the Receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledged doth grant 
bargain & sell unto the said Jonas OXLEY his heirs and assigns forever 
Certain Tract or Parcel of Land situate in the County aforesaid lying on the 
South side of Contentney Creek beginning at a white Oak, Thomas PHILIPSES 
corner and runs with Thomas PHILIPS line S 70 East 140 poles to a pine then 
with the Line between Thomas COLMAN & Thomas PHILLIPS N. 25 East 97 poles to 
a water Oak then N. 70 West 168 poles to a pine then S 22 West 42 poles to a  
White Oak Thomas PHILLIPS corner then with his Line to the Beginning by 
estimation one hundred acres its being part of a tract of Land granted unto 
Lewis CONNER To have and to hold the above mentioned bargained premisses and 
every part and parcel with the hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto 
belonging unto the said Jonas OXLEY to the only use Benefit & Behoof of the 
said Jonas OXLEY his heirs & assigns forever and the said Isaac CLARK for 
himself & his heirs the aforesaid Lands and premises and every part & parcel 
thereof with the hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging against 
himself his heirs and against the Claim or Claims of any person or persons 
whatsoever to the said Jonas OXLEY his heirs and assigns shall and will 
warrant and forever defend by these presents. In witness whereof he the said 
Isaac CLARK hath hereunto set his hand and seal the date and date above 
written.
