Craven County, NC - Deeds - John Bryan to Richard Cogdell, 1756 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To all whom these presents shall come I John Bryan of the town of Newbern in the province of North Carolina send greeting. Know ye: That I the said John Bryan for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds proclamation money to me in hand paid by Richard Cogdell of the county of Johnston and province aforesaid Merchant the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge and am therewith fully satisfied & contented Have given granted bargained and sold unto him the said Richard Cogdell his heirs and assigns forever a certain parcel of land joining to Newbern town and being the part of a lot which is known in the plan of the said town of Newbern 16 (on which said part stands the store formerly called Jobs Store) joining John Williams store beginning at the corner of lot No. 16 and runs So. 10 degrees west thirteen poles to the river thence No. 80 degrees west six poles and a half then No. 10 degrees 6th 13 poles to parch stick thence down Front Street to the begining being part of three part lots granted to the said John Bryan by Cullen Pollock by deed bearing date the 6th day of March 1746, as may now fully and at large appear To have and to hold the said land or parcel lot with all and singular the improvements houses buildings profits printings benefits and appurtenances thereunto belonging unto him the said Richard Cogdell his heirs and assigns forever And I the said John Bryan the aforesaid land with all the improvements houses &c aforesaid unto him the said Richard Cogdell his heirs and assigns forever against the claims of any person or persons whatsoever claiming by law by or under me my heirs &c paying annually unto the said John Bryan his heirs and succesors one pepper corn if demanded Provided also and it is the true interest and meaning of these presents that if the said Richard Cogdell or any other person shall die in possession of the aforesaid land or any part thereof and leave us heirs non wake as legal disposal thereof that then the said land with all the improvements and appurtenances shall revert and come to the said John Bryan his heirs and assigns In witness whereof I the said John Bryan have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 17th day of May Anno Domini 1756 Signed sealed and delivered John Bryan {Seal} In the presence of Richard Megraw May Craven Court 1756 John Megraw The foregoing deed was proved by the oath of Richard Megraw and ordered to be registered William Powell Clerk of Court ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
