Craven County, NC - John Council Bryan to Richard Cogdell, 1768 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This Indenture made the 20th day of October 1767. Between John Council Bryan Son and Heir at Law of John Bryan Deceased late of Craven County in the Province of North Carolina of the one Part and Richard Cogdell of NewBern in the County aforesaid of the other Part Witnesseth that the said John Council Bryan for and in Consideration of the Sum of Twenty Shillings Proclamation Money In Hand paid by the said Richard Cogdell before the Sealing and Delivery of these Presents the Receipt whereof the said John Council Bryan doth hereby Acknowledge and thereof and every Part thereof Exonerate Acquit and Discharge the said Richard Cogdell his Heirs Executors, Adminisr's & Assigns Hath Given Granted Bargained Sold Aliened Ensealled Assigned set over Convey'd and Confirmed and by these Presents doth Grant Bargain Sell Alien Enseall Assigns set over Convey and Confirm unto the said Richard Cogdell His Heirs and Assigns One Half of the Front of the Lot Number 17 Seventeen in NewBern on Front Street, Beginning at the Corner of the Front No 10 Eighteen Bernard Parkinsons Corner and runing Southerly with the Line of Front Number Eighteen Thirteen Poles to the Channel then Easterly Fifty four feet thence Northerly thirteen Poles to Front Street then Westerly with Front Street to the Beginning the several Courses to be the same as laid down in the Plan of the Town Containing One quarter of an Acre or half of the Front of the Lott Number Seventeen more or less, Together with all Buildings and Improvements thereon, and all the Right Members Appendances and Appurtenances to the same belonging or any ways Appertaining the Reversion and Remainder Rents Issues & Profits to the said Presises and every Part & Parcel thereof and all the Right Title Interest Property Claim Demand and Law or Equity of him the John Council Bryan in or to the same TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the said quarter of an Acre of Ground together will all and singular the Appurtenances thereunto belonging to him the said Richard Cogdell his Heirs and Assigns and to their only proper Use and Behoof forever. And may from time to time and at all times peaceable and quietly Occupy Possess and Enjoy the same, without the Let Hindrance or Molestation of him the said John Council Bryan his Heirs and Assigns or any other Person or Persons Claiming by from or under him, In Witness whereof the Parties to these Presents have hereunto set their Hands & Seals the Day and Year first above Written Signed Sealed & Delivered Jno.
