All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Jo Huettl johit@suddenlink.net December 6, 2009, 7:34 pm Written: 1814 18 June 1814 (Source: New Bern Register of Deeds, Book 39, Vol 1, Pages 155-157) William Blackledge and John R Donnell This indenture made the eighteenth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fourteen between William Blackledge of the Town of Newbern County of Craven & State of North Carolina of the one part and John R Donnel of the same place of the other part Witnefseth that he the said William Blackledge for and in consideration of the sum of sixteen hundred and seventeen dollars fifty cents to him in hand paid or secured to be paid by the said John R Donnell before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged he the said William hath bargained and sold aliened enfeoffed conveyed and confirmed and by these presents doth bargain & sell aline enfeoff convey and confirm unto the said John R Donnell his heirs and afsigns two certain pieces or parcels of land lying and being on the South West side of Neuse river near the town of Newbern and adjoining each other the one being a piece purchased by said Blackledge of Jeremiah Maslin by deed bearing date of the 19th day of June 1810 and described therein, as part of the Newbern town Patent, Beginning at a stake it being one of Charles Bates’s corners in Edward Pasteurs line running along said Pasteurs line South thirty six degrees East twenty two poles and three feet, then North fifty seven and a half degrees East sixty seven poles to William Ferrands line then along said Ferrands line North forty degrees West, twenty seven and a half poles to Charles Bates’s Corner in said Ferrands line, then along said Bates’s line South fifty five degrees West sixty four poles to the beginning “I and containing ten acres be the same more or lefs; the other piece purchased by said Blackledge of John Harvey Merchant of the Town of Newbern, by deed bearing date the thirteenth day of July in the year of our Lord 1810 and described in said deed by lying and being in the County of Craven on the South West side of Neuse river near the Town of Newbern and joining the lands of Doctor Edward Pasteur William Ferrand and apiece lately purchased by the said William Blackledge from Jeremiah Mastin beginning at a stake within two or three feet of a cedar it being the dividing corner on the west side of the road as it now runs of the lands of Francis Hawks and Edward Pasteur and runs North fifty seven and a half degrees East sixty sis poles twelve feet to William Ferrands lower corner of his back line, then along said Ferrands line North forty West eighteen pole nine feet to said Williams Corner in said line then South fifty seven and a half West along his line to Edward Pasteurs line then South forty East along said Pasteurs line to the beginning contain in by estimation seven & five eights acres be the same more or lefs. To have and to hold the said two pieces or parcels of land purchased by him of John S West and joining the two piece purchased of John Harvey on the South East side thereof and extending to the river Neuse. Now this indenture further Witnefseth that the said William Blackledge for the consideration above acknowledges to have been paid hath given granted bargained sold and confirmed and by these presents do give grant bargain sell and confirm unto the said John R Donnell his heirs and afsigns a right of way of the width of twelve feet through the piece of land purchased by said Blackledge from John S West as a foreraid said way to lead and estend from the South East corner of the price adjoining said tract hereby above purchased by said Donnell along the upper line of the tract purchased of said John S West by said Blackledge as aforesaid to the Channel of the river Neuse or as far into said river as said Blackledge has right to convey and said way to be used in common between the said John R Donnell & William Blackledge their heirs & afsigns forever and the said William Blackledge for himself his heirs executors and administrators doth covenant and agree to and with the said John R Donnell his heirs executors administrators and afsigns the above described two pieces or parcels of land together with the above granted way to warrant & defend unto the said John R Donnell his heirs and afsigns forever. In Witnefs whereof he the said William hath hereunto set his hand and seal at Newbern the day and year first above written.
