Deed from Zilpha Cuthrell Tingle to her children, 1838: 
Craven County Deed Book 55, p. 114. 5 Sep 1838: 
"This indenture made and executed this fifth day of September AD one thousand 
eight hundred and thirty eight by and between ZILPHA TINGLE of the County of 
Craven and State of North Carolina of the one part and JOSEPH B. TINGLE, 
MARGARET DAW wife of KENNEDY DAW, CATHERINE JANE CUTHRELL wife of AMOS 
CUTHRELL, WILLIAM P. TINGLE and MARIA TINGLE all the children of said ZILPHA 
TINGLE and all of County and State aforesaid of the other part, Witnesseth 
that the said ZILPHA TINGLE for and in consideration of the natural love and 
affection she hath and beareth towards her sons and daughters viz JOSEPH B. 
TINGLE, MARGARET DAW wife of KENNEDY DAW, CATHERINE JANE CUTHRELL wife of 
AMOS CUTHRELL, WILLIAM P. TINGLE, MARIA TINGLE...also for the better 
maintenance and preferment of the said JOSEPH B. TINGLE, MARGARET DAW wife of 
KENNEDY DAW, CATHERINE JANE CUTHRELL wife of AMOS CUTHRELL, WILLIAM P. TINGLE 
and MARIA TINGLE hath given granted aliened...and confirmed by these presents 
doth give grant alien...and confirm unto the said JOSEPH B. TINGLE, MARGARET 
DAW wife of KENNEDY DAW,  CATHERINE JANE CUTHRELL wife of AMOS CUTHRELL, 
WILLIAM P. TINGLE and MARIA TINGLE all her right title and interests in lands 
lying in Craven County on the North side of Neuse River and on both sides of 
Upper Broad Creek to them their heirs and assigns forever reserving to her 
said ZILPHA TINGLE any privilege she might want for own...alone during her 
natural life. 
Signed Sealed and the day and year first above written 
delivered in the presence of ZILPHA X (her mark) TINGLE 
JOHN BRINSON 
State of North Carolina May 31st 1841 
  Personally appeared before MATTHIAS E. MANLY one of the Judges of the 
Superior Court of Law and Equity in and for the State aforesaid JOHN BRINSON 
the subscribing witness to the foregoing deed and duly proved the execution 
thereof by ZILPHA TINGLE, Wherefor let it and this certificate be Registered 
M. E. MANLY, ..."
