Ward and Nancy Ward from Whichcote White Craven County, North Carolina Deed Book 66, Pg. 313-314 This Indenture made and executed this twelfth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-one by and between William H Ward and Nancy Ward of the County of Craven & State of North Carolina of the first part and Whichcote White of the County & State afore said. Witnesseth that whereas at the Fall Term 1859 of the court of Equity for Craven county Whichcote White, Leroy M White & others filed their petition for the sale of a certain tract of land in Craven county specified in said petition. And Whereas said land was ordered by said Court to be sold by the block & Master and the proceeds distributed among the parties entitled, And whereas The said parties of the first part are entitled to one-half of one sixth of the net proceeds of said sale. Now therefore for and in consideration of the promises and for the further consideration of one dollar in hand paid to the said parties of the first part by the said party of the second part the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the said parties of the first part have given granted bargained and sold and by these presents go give grant bargain sell and convey unto the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns all their and each of their Estate in the fund arising from the sale of said land. To Have and To Hold the same to the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns - In witness whereof the said parties of the first part have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written. Signed Sealed and delivered in presence of W. H. Ward (Seal) Nancy(her X mark) Ward(Seal) State of North Carolina Before me M.E. Manly one of the Judges of the Supreme Court of North Carolina personally appeared William H. Ward and Nancy his wife who acknowledged the above execution of the foregoing disbursement to be their act and deed - And the said Nancy Ward being by us privately examined separate & apart from her husband the said William H. Ward touching her free consent to this execution of the same, acknowledged and declared that she executed the same firstly and of her own accord and without any force or compulsion on the part of her said husband and that she doth still voluntarily assent thereto/ Therefore let said deed & this certificate be Registered.
