Craven County, NC - Deed of Smith J. Wise to Shadrack R. Messick ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Deed of Smith J. Wise to Shadrack R. Messick Book 69, Page 460 November 22, 1860 Witnesses: Asa C. Daniels Jerome B. Brisson This indenture made and executed this the Twenty Second day of November One Thousand Eight Hundred and sixty between Smith J. Wise of the one part and Shadrack R. Messick of the other part, all of the county of Craven and State of North Carolina. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of ninety-seven dollars and fifty cents to me in hand paid by the said Shadrack R. Messick the receipt where of I do hereby acknowledge myself satisfied and paid. Have bargained, sold and by these presents doth sell and convey unto the said Shadrack R. Messick a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being on the North Side of Bay River and West side of Petty’s Creek adjoining the lands of Shadrack R. Messick beginning at a pine on the side of said creek. Shadrack R. Messick Corner, Running down the said creek then up said creek to the land belonging to the heirs of Jessie Riggs with said line to The land belonging to Martha T. Messick there with said line to the land of Shadrack R. Messick then with said line back to the beginning to contain sixty-five acres within, to have and to hold unto the said Shadrack R. Messick his heirs and assigns forever and I the said Smith J. Wise will forever warrant and defend unto the said Shadrack R. Messick the above desirable tract or parcel of land from the lawful claims of all persons claimed by through or under me or my heirs in testimony where of I have here unto set my hand and seal the day and date above written.
