Craven County, NC - C.R. Thomas Letter to "Doctor" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Law Office of Practices in the Courts of Craven, Carteret, C.R. Thomas Jones, Onslow, Lenoir and Pamilico Counties The Supreme Court of North Carolina and the U.S. District and Circuit Courts New Berne, N.C. June 29th 189 [last number mising] Dear Doctor; I have seen Miss Custis, Mr. Oliver, Mrs. Susan Stanly and others, of the old people of New Berne but can get no information upon the subject of your letter of 26th relative to the WEALTHY WIDOW (Heiss) whom Wheeler says Gen. Sumner married. Evidently they had no descendants as W says both son and daughter (Jacky) died without issue. As the daughter's husband died in 1812 (Hon. Thos. Blount) and she probably some years married before then, the re (sic) is probably noremembrance (sic) of the family, with no descendants and so far back. I trust you will have a large audience. I know you will an appreciative one. If you should meet Col. Whitford (Jno D) of New Berne in Raleigh ask him. He is absent from town, but is a great antiquarian. Yours truly, C.R.
